Springing into... Spring

 Soccer Advances to Playoffs-
YVHS hosts both Girls and Boys games
Our soccer program finished strong again this year under the direction of program coordinator Cesar Chavez and his team of coaches, bringing both our boys and girls programs to the NCS playoffs. In Round 1, hosted by YVHS, the girls faced off against the touch Las Lomas team, losing a heartbreaking but fierce battle with the Knights 4-3. The boys hosted Miramonte HS, easily besting the Matadors 4-0.
The boys went on to play Round 2, losing to Campolindo in overtime, 2-1.

An incredible season by both teams! Congratulations!

Senior Karla Ramos Leaves her Mark on History
Karla Ramos, in her senior year playing soccer for the Warriors, upended a previous season goal scoring record, once held by Jonathan ('Tata') Ayala, who had set the record the previous year with 33 goals in the season. Karla surpassed that number before the regular season ended, finishing with a total of 35. Congratulations Karla!!

Performing Arts Presents the 3rd Annual Love Show
The Madrigals, Drama Club and Dance 3 class collaborated once again to present the sounds of the "season" with the Third Annual 'Love Show', featuring some outstanding highlights including Conor Boal, Kayla Samuels and Rhyndyl Sardina singing a bluesy version of 'Toxic', the MadMen singing about the 'Game of Love', and the Drama Club running through their top 5 Love Scenes from the movies... with little plot twists. Dance 3 took us through all of the stages of love with some outstanding student choreography, and the whole show wrapped up with a rare performance by Mr. Carter on guitar and vocals, and Ms Cooper on piano and harmonies for their favorite musical theater piece, 'Falling Slowly.' Congratulations to these programs for an excellent performance! Stay tuned for more info about the upcoming Pops Concert, Next week March 12th and 13th.

WE Day for the Warriors
Our Raising for Relief clubs were treated to an amazing day honoring and inspiring service in teens, a day called WE Day, put on by Free the Children, where guest speakers and performers ranged from Colbie Caillat, to Joe Jonas, to Kid President! We day was organized to help inspire teens to care about social issues and put those concerns into action. Our Raising for Relief club fed the homeless this year, gathered clothes for the needs, and more, and they had a great time at this outstanding event!

Baseball Starts off The Season with Fireworks
Ok, not literally. That's illegal in this county. However, the Warriors started their season with a win over Hercules, and promptly moved forward, going into Wednesday's game at Hercules with a 3-1 record. Congrats to the team and to coach Sean Morrison for leading the team into a great beginning!

Dance 3 Takes on The Circus... and Newsies!
Dance 3 headed to the city first to take in some lessons in the circus arts! The dancers were treated to lessons in juggling, circus biking, aerial silks, static trapeze, and Flying Trapeze. 8 of the Warriors ended the day with a catch! Pretty amazing trip is how it was described by the group, but they weren't done there. Back on Bart to head in to the Orpheum, where the group took in the Broadway sensation 'Newsies!' Dance 3 has always been host to a large amount of male dancers, having 12 in the troupe this year, and this musical features mostly high school age professional male dancers- the show was inspiring to all, high energy, and so much fun!

And Speaking of Dance
The Warriors are getting a new dance studio! It's coming together quickly, with new mirrors and ballet barres in the room... only step left is a sound system! Time for some more grace training, Warriors!

Warriors Blazing Through the Winter

Our Band Director, Zach Pattison, in his second year at YV took the Golden Warrior Marching Band to New Orleans for a week of fun, food, and hours and miles of marching!! The band members came back exhausted and happy, with memories that will stay with them forever.

Says our Drum Major, Junior Claire Rader, "(My favorite parts)- The music that was everywhere there was fabulous. I loved walking around and hearing it. Marching was really fun because we got to see a whole different side of the town. And the sights were fantastic. There was always something new to do and look at. I loved it all."

Congratulations to Marching Band on the end of an amazing season, and to Mr. P for creating these memories for our Warriors!

Renaissance Leadership gets Inspired

They they participated in breakout sessions about school climate, culture, student recognition and more.

California Attorney General Kamala Harris and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg were the keynote speakers, and talked to the students about internet safety and responsibility. Kamala Harris explained, “We have a right to be a voice and stand up for the voiceless. Students were treated to several panels with topics ranging from internet trolling and bullying to using social media to promote advocacy. It was a wonderful experience and a great opportunity for the students involved. They also really enjoyed the unlimited snack room the Facebook employees have access too! The students left with a greater understanding of social media and personal responsibility and several great ideas to use social media to promote social change!
